NWSI PARADE MARCH 14, 2010

parade 2009

In tradition with our previous parades NWSI will be recognizing and supporting extended charitable communities and organizations. Our Grand Marshal for 2009 is our dear friend and Northwest Side supporter President John McDonough. John is the President of the Chicago Blackhawks.
We want all of our friends and families to support the humanitarian efforts of those individuals as who have made a difference in the community we live in. In your community, your country, your own circle of friends and family we all have the ability to make a difference. Thank you for all of your support and we look forward to joining all of our friends and families at the 2009 Northwest Side Irish St, Patrick's Day on March 8,2009.

Dear Friends:
It is a pleasure for us to have President John McDonough as our 2009 Grand Marshal. As you probably know the parade was originally founded in memory of my mom Judy Murray. She was a great fan of the Chicago Blackhawks in the days of Stan Miketa, Bobby Hall and her all time favorite Keith Magneson. The five Murray children spent many nights in front of the television watching the Blackhawks. As an adult in the days
of Denise Savard and Jeremy Roenick in the "and a save by Bannerman" days. I walked many flights up the ramp to sit in the nose bleed section at the Chicago Stadium. As a matter of fact when I was pregnant with my first son John, I remember walking those ramps into my eighth month. Thank goodness for modern technology..like escalators. As we take the stage in our seventh year we welcome President McDonough and the Blackhawk Organization and thank you for bringing another great family tradition back to the families that so wholeheartedly appreciate the venue, the sport and the opportunit to come together as a family and enjoy the good times.

We will also be recognizing and raising awareness for the Teamsters Helmets to Hardhats program. This is a program within the Teamster community that assists our returning Veterans with career opportunities. The Helmets to Hardhats program has assisted many of our Chicago Veterans in transitioning their military skills into the civilian sector with outstanding careers for their future. It is a national program that the Chicago Teamsters have embraced and provided many of our local Veterans with extended support in fulfilling careers for their future. Through the efforts of Teamsters Joint Council 25 andd President Yauger, Chicago is now the role model for the national Helmets to Hardhats campaign.

We are also recognizing as our 2009 Humanitarian of the Year International Brtoherhood of Teamsters Vice President and Director of the Human Rights Commission Cheryl Johnson. Cheryl has made groundbreaking efforts to support so many of the Human Rights issues that so many of our Teamster members are faced with. She has been committed to ensuring teamster members that a there is a commission within the teamsters community that recognizes the individuality and diversity of its members. In Chicago she has supported the Teamsters Helmets to Hardhats program, a program that supports our returning veterans with gainful career opportunities. Illinois is now the role model for the national program that launched right here in Chicago with the Teamsters Joint Council 25. With her commitment and the commitment that President John Coli have supported we now have great opportunities available to our Illinois veterans and now nationally to all of our veterans across the country.
